Post Chinese New Year celebration

We all know that the Chinese New Year celebration has just ended on Monday this week, the 14th day of the Lunar calendar. Everybody is now drifting away from the festive mood. Back to normal life and reality again... Just thinking about the fun that I enjoyed during that period. Oh, how I wish that it could go on for the rest of the year. That should be a good idea. But we need to face the reality of life. School, homework, exams, studies and mugging. Anyway, that's life. Who can change it? Nobody. After a piece of homework, another piece and another...(sigh)

We decided to have a post Chinese New Year celebration for my mother's side of the familiy. My family organised lunch today. It is the usual lazy Saturday. What did you expect me to be doing besides playing? I love gaming with a million hearts but too much of it would make me kind of bored. It is best enjoyed when relaxing from the tiring week filled full with activities like this week. My mother's eldest brother and youngest brother came to my house to celebrate. My father was somwhat upset with my uncles as they did not organise a celebration. My family have hosted a party during Christmas. When I ask my father why are we the ones organising, he would reply"because they are recession hit". I kind of find it comical as he always joke around with me and my family members. But my mother was always trying to defend my uncles.

Anyway, we had mee siam for today's lunch celebration. My family was busy preparing all the catered food. We bought the mee siam in bulk and my dad was busy collecting them. My siblings and I just needed to wait for the party to begin. It was whole lot of fun for me and my brothers because that is when my parents would let me off into playing. Yay! The whole time I was just doing these few things. Collecting red packets and wishing my relatives, eating and playing my head off. This is a real good opportunity for me to relax. My parents were entertaining my relatives all the while.

Here is a picture of my parents and relatives.(I was not in the picture because I was playing, so were my brothers. Haha)

My Brother's Birthday

Today was just like school a school day. Everybody was so caught up with things that my whole family almost forgot about my elder brother's birthday which is around the corner! I see how time flies so quickly. Just when you have turned thirteen, you are about to turn fourteen. Everyone is wiser now. I sitll remembered when my whole family celebrated Shaun's birthday last year. It was etched in my mind so clearly like we have celebrated it yesterday! Come to think about it, I remembered very little during the year that has swiftly passed by. Ironic it is but it is true. Anyway, my family decided to postphone it till today. My brother's actual birthday is the 3rd of Feburary.
My father sent us to school today like usual days. I am getting worried about my father as I can sense that the economic crisis is affecting him in many ways. For example, when he was driving me to school today, he took the wrong route and that caused us to be extremely late for school, that almost cost me to see the Mr Chia the next day. This was not the first time either, on other occasions he almost did the same. I see the world today with the economic crisis, so many people unemployed and many pay cuts. All the stress and anxiety after the Chinese New Yeat celebrations... But that would not stop me nor my family to spend an auspicious time together celebeating the arrival of my brother's 15 birthday!
No need to say, I had classes today. After school hours, I immediately rushed to my badminton training. It was tough especially when competition is just around the corner. I had a hard time playing with Lie Wen's brother. He is very good for Secondary One. He could make me run like a dog, fetching the ball at every corner of the court.
Going to the highlight of today, my family went out for dinner at some nearby restaurant. It is usual for us to eat out at a special occasion. Chinese cusine was for tonight. We ate to our hearts content and went home for the celebration.

Our family just decided that we have a quiet celebration today. Besides, what is more heartwarming than celebrating with one's family members? My brother chose the ice-cream cake from Swensens.

Today was just like any other school day. Maybe it is good or maybe it is bad. I am not quite sure. There are ups and downs in peoples lives and we need to just go forward and become great. Every new day is like a beginning of a new journey. It is up to you whether to make things right. Anyway, today is Friday, my favourite day of the week. Fridays are the best days of my life as it is the last day of school and I can enjoy the long weekend. But after all it is like an ordinary day as I do the same things in school.

I had two periods of Geography lessons today. My class had a class test today. I thought it was going to be easy and I revised for it minimally. Little did I know that the test was actually last year's Continual Assessment! I was totally caught off guard. During the test, I tried my best to answer all the questions. Later I had Maths. This time Maths was interesting. I do not know why. Maybe what I learnt was interesting, or simply maybe because I was full of spirits then. Then, it was recess. Normally during recess I would kick a ball around the school field with my fellow classmates. Maybe that would explain why I would have difficulty listening to the lessons that follow after.

I had Higher Mother Toungue next. It was boring as Mr Chew practically did not teach any new chapter. I got used to it as I was in his class last year. Mr Chew would just teach minimally and talk about administrative stuff instead.

Lastly, we had Science. My class module now is Biology. This lesson was quite interesting as we moved on to the Reproduction in Man chapter. Everybody moved their seats the front to listen to the "engageing " lesson.

When school was over, I headed straight to the nearby Bedok Sports Hall. The school hall was used up in organising the East Zone Badminton Preliminary Rounds. I boarded the usual crowded No. 31 bus at the opposite bus-stop of Victoria School. The bus was usually filled with all the KC girls, most of the time I would stand the whole bus journey. I immediately got into my sports wear when I reached there. I would warm up for a few minutes and spar with my teammates. My coach would tehn let me play a few games to help me improve my gameplay. I am quite deligthed that I am in the starting line-up during tournament days. I began feeling that I am slowly getting back my form. Apart from the training, I also bought a new badminton racket as I thought it would be a good idea for me to get a new one before the start of the tournament.

This is the brand of the racket I bought. The brand name was some kind of alien to me. I mean has anyone want to buy such kind of brand. Many people would think about Yonex, Ashaway, Victor but certainly not this "PROKENNEX". Anyway I bought this racket since my coach recommended it to me. I got this cover upon buying it.ALAKAZAM! Look at my newly bought racket! Everybody would think that if the brand is lousy, so will de the products. Instead, it looks professional and stylish. But what impresses me about this one the most is about its supreme quality. Its is even lighter than my Yonex racket! Looks like my coach sure knows it all...

CNY Reunion Dinner

I had a terrific Chinese New Year celebration in Malacca. Now i am back blogging about it. My family and I went to Malacca to visit our relatives there. We have been doing this for as long as I can remember. My father was born and raised in this historic small town and it is my father's beloved hometown. My grandfather and my father's eldest brother are staying there. We drove to Melaka early last Friday, January 23, at around 11 am. Since school only ended much later, my parents wrote in to Ms Shamira for approval to leave earlier which my form teacher allowed. As we were afraid that the Tuas Checkpoint might be jammed, we did not want to take the gamble by leaving in the afternoon. I was quite sad to miss the school's Chinese New Year celebration, especially when my classmates, The Three Buskerteers were performing their winning act from the Science Buskers Competition.

When we were at Melaka the first few days before Chinese New Year, we were just catching up with my cousins and playing with them while my father was talking to my uncles and aunties. I especially look forward to eating my grandfathers homemade pineapple tarts. It was so sinful that I ate almost the whole tin of it! I think that I might have gained some flabs when the festive season is over. That is when my badminton coach will "kill" me as competition is around the corner.

Anyway, I felt that the first two days of my stay there was not so interesting. But then draws nearer to the eve and the first day of the Lunar New Year which inevetibly becomes more and more exciting. At night during the eve of the Lunar New Year, we had a reunion dinner. We received many red packets from various relatives. There were more relatives compared to previous nights. We celebrated the arrival of the Lunar New Year at midnight. My cousins, brothers and I went to play fireworks outside along the roadside outside my uncle's house. Come to think about it, I wish I could turn back time and celebrate Chinese New Year all over again!
During the Chinese Reunion Dinner, the theme was "The Little Nonya", so all the women would dress up as a nonya. From right to left, my father's only sister, my father's eldest sister-in-law, my paternal grandmother(an authentic nonya) and finally my mother.
From right to left: Shaun(eldest brother), me(Brendan, who else can it be?), Aaron(youngest brother) and finnaly my mother. (My dad was not in the picture because he had to rush off for some reasons)

A Moment I Enjoyed With My Family

Dazzling lights, wonderful performance, spectactcular display...

These are some phrases that I would use to describe last year's much anticipated Marina Bay Countdown 2009 during the end of the year, "The Biggest Party In Town", so as the media says. Guess what, I attended the show/party. It was dance and performances whole night long by local celebrities that will keep your sprits up the whole New Year's Day. Let me just recall...

I was in my best attire for the special occasion, wearing branded clothing and nice pure white Nike shoes. My whole family was dressed smartly. We drove in to a carpark near the holding site, we ate in a Chinese resturant for dinner around the area. We went window shopping at Marina Square so as to kill time since we were there early to avoid jam. The whole building wascrowded with people, the youths occupied one-third of the total shoppers. I could see groups of teens flaunting their stylish accessories, skinnies and mud bags. It was partly due to the school holidays that youths could be seen shopping at this hour. Many people were shopping cause of the post christmas sale. It was sad that to see that some shops were closing for the day despite many shoppers.

It was fast reaching the opening time for the show. My family and I slowly made our way to the "VIP" entrance. It is easy to explain. My father who is working in URA(Urban Redevelopment Authority) got VIP tickets for the whole family as URA is the company that is organising this event. Come to think about it, I really felt hounoured and excited although VIP is only just for the name. Whilst we were approaching the enterance, I passed by rows after rows of people sitting down around the building. Most of them were there to watch the fireworks.

Just as soon as we arrived at the entrance, there were ushers to the lounge. It was typical. Waiters were serving the guests with wine and delicacies.

We headed to the seating area. The show was about to start. There was this host, entertaining and keeping the "partying" spirit alive. "3,2,1, go" The trailer started since this event was being telecast live. The audience made some noise and the show started.

There were bands and stars performing and singing and "we are going for a break". During the break, the host would tell us what to expect next. Then the process repeats itself all over again. I must say that some performance were quite good while some were mediocre. The show kept me interested and captivated,

It was fast approaching 12 midnight, and the host invited all the stars to come on stage andcountdown the new year together. "3,2,1, Happy New Year" Fireworks could be seen all over the sky. It was majestic....
