I had a terrific Chinese New Year celebration in Malacca. Now i am back blogging about it. My family and I went to Malacca to visit our relatives there. We have been doing this for as long as I can remember. My father was born and raised in this historic small town and it is my father's beloved hometown. My grandfather and my father's eldest brother are staying there. We drove to Melaka early last Friday, January 23, at around 11 am. Since school only ended much later, my parents wrote in to Ms Shamira for approval to leave earlier which my form teacher allowed. As we were afraid that the Tuas Checkpoint might be jammed, we did not want to take the gamble by leaving in the afternoon. I was quite sad to miss the school's Chinese New Year celebration, especially when my classmates, The Three Buskerteers were performing their winning act from the Science Buskers Competition.
When we were at Melaka the first few days before Chinese New Year, we were just catching up with my cousins and playing with them while my father was talking to my uncles and aunties. I especially look forward to eating my grandfathers homemade pineapple tarts. It was so sinful that I ate almost the whole tin of it! I think that I might have gained some flabs when the festive season is over. That is when my badminton coach will "kill" me as competition is around the corner.
Anyway, I felt that the first two days of my stay there was not so interesting. But then draws nearer to the eve and the first day of the Lunar New Year which inevetibly becomes more and more exciting. At night during the eve of the Lunar New Year, we had a reunion dinner. We received many red packets from various relatives. There were more relatives compared to previous nights. We celebrated the arrival of the Lunar New Year at midnight. My cousins, brothers and I went to play fireworks outside along the roadside outside my uncle's house. Come to think about it, I wish I could turn back time and celebrate Chinese New Year all over again!
